Carduus Marianus
Long before I was diagnosed with cancer and metastatic
liver disease, I was aware of milk thistle. Yes, back in "the day," Jose Cuervo WAS a good friend of mine. After
abusing myself wonderfully, my traditional repentance was to drink an herbal detox tea made of stinging nettles and milk thistle.
When I received my diagnosis that while I still had an essentially healthy liver (no cirrhosis or tequila damage....), it
had approximately 22 tumors over 2 cm that had metastisized from my primary cancer. Once the shock wore off somewhat, I tried
to think of ways to help my liver compensate for these invaders. I still take 2000 mgs of milk thistle daily over and above
what is in my tea and as of my last CT scan, my tumor load was down to 11 tumors over 2 cm and my liver function is good. Most people do not have this staggering reason for maintaining
a healthy liver but remember that it is one of the most important cleansing and detoxifying organs in our body. A healthy
liver works to remove the toxins brought into your body from your environment, food additives, smoking, drugs, both pharmaceutical
and otherwise. A healthy liver promotes a healthy body and clear skin. It also helps the body to actually utilize nutrition
that would otherwise be lost in the biological process of elimination. This is the best herb for liver support, especially
in the compromised cases of cancer, cirrhosis, hepatitis and gall bladder disease. Here are a few things Wikipedia says. Beside benefits for liver disease, treatment claims include:
- Lowering cholesterol levels
- Reducing insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes who also have cirrhosis
- Reducing the growth of cancer cells in breast, cervical, and prostate cancers.
- Milk thistle is also used in many products claiming to reduce the effects
of a hangover.
